On 29th October 2025, PROTEGO and the EPA Ghana held a half-day workshop at La Palm Beach Hotel in Accra for key stakeholders in Ghana's packaging sector. The event aimed to share knowledge and best practices on eco-modulation, design for recycling, and recycled content use aligned with Ghana's draft Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework.

Central to the discussions was the eco-modulation mechanism for calculating EPR fees under the draft regulations. This system incentivizes sustainable packaging through a bonus-malus approach: higher fees for non-recyclable or problematic packaging, and reduced fees for recyclable, reusable, or recycled-content packaging.

The workshop brought together diverse stakeholders including government bodies (EPA, MESTI, Ministry of Finance, Ghana Standards Authority), major industry players (Nestlé, Coca-Cola Bottling Company Ltd, Mohonani Group, Twellium Company Ltd), the National Association of Water Sachets Producers, GRIPE, and media representatives.
