On 12 May, PROTEGO, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Environment, officially launched the Policy Brief on Policies, Institutional Set-Up and Financing of Marine Litter Prevention in Nigeria.

The event marked a significant milestone for PROTEGO in Nigeria, bringing together government officials, environmental experts, and development partners. Participants discussed how to move beyond monitoring marine litter in the Gulf of Guinea towards building the institutions, financing mechanisms, and political momentum needed to stop it.

The Policy Brief maps Nigeria's current legislative, institutional and financial landscape for marine litter prevention, identifies the critical gaps that hinder effective action, and sets out a sequenced roadmap of recommendations for policymakers, development partners and practitioners working to address plastic pollution in the Gulf of Guinea.

The Policy Brief is available for download here.
